2010-2011年ジャパングッドデザインアワードにおいて、近代丸型リールの最高傑作として突出した評価を得た、モノブロック。全パーツ丸棒からの完全削りだしの加工はもちろん、機械加工の挽目の具合にこだわり、パーツ一点、一点について、0.1gにこだわり、恐るべき部品点数の数々を、もっともコンパクトな径の真円に納めていくという、極限のレーシングパッケージ。まさに、モノブロックは、製作者の数学的追求の極みと、芸術作品としてのプライオリティの追及が限界までせめぎ合った結果もたらした事件という他ない。これはもはや、デザインではなく、製作者の情念が引き起こした、モノブロックという「現象」なのだ。そこに、新たなハイギヤの要望が出現した。極限のコンパクトパッケージングをあらゆる数学的解析技術を導入してみては試行錯誤を続けたが、巨大で狂暴なビッグ・ハイギヤは、わずかに真円からはみ出てしまう結果になった。そこへ、専用のギヤハウジングをアルミ塊から薄肉で削りだし、これを継ぎ足して、HGの6.8ハイギヤは稼働することになった。真紅のギヤハウジングは、もはやここまでに極限のコンパクトパッケージングに全身全霊をかけて挑んだ、製作者の怨念を示しているかもしれない。
